Remedial Massage

The remedial massage therapy provided by Coastal Health Solutions is a systematic manipulation of soft tissues of the body to enhance health and healing.  It may involve joint movements and stretching.

Regular and systematic massage causes the muscles to become firmer and more elastic, while muscles too weak to be used voluntarily can be strengthened.

No two people presenting for a massage will view the effects in the same way.  This is because individuals are just that, individuals.  They differ in physical, mental and emotional states at the time of presentation.  Massage therapy will have a beneficial effect on all of these levels.

Remedial massage therapy can be useful in the treatment of:-

  • Adhesions
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Breathlessness eg asthma, emphysema, bronchitis
  • Bursitis
  • Constipation
  • Contractures
  • Insomnia
  • Joint stiffness & pain
  • Muscular tension
  • Nasal congestion & sinus
  • Oedema
  • Painful feet
  • Peripheral oedema
  • Poor circulation
  • Respiratory congestion
  • Rheumatic problems
  • Stress & tension headaches
It is estimated that blood passes three times more rapidly through muscles being massaged than muscles at rest and therefore aids in the removal of metabolic waste products and helps nourish tissues.  Effective massage prevents and relieves stiffness and soreness and aids muscle tissue that has suffered injury by helping it heal more quickly with less connective tissue build up and scarring when therapeutic massage is applied regularly.

For those persons who have a limited range of motion due to injury, inflammation, muscle tension or strain regular massage assists them by reducing muscle tension and promoting circulation.
